    Ballina, inshore reefs ?

    Hi all,
    My first thread on here.

At short notice I have the day off tomorrow and am planning on heading out to black head early. Back in about lunchtime or ?
I have a 4.2m Stessco Catcher with 40Etec and only myself to go fishing. SP drifting for snapper is my plan.

Anyone not working or ? can call a sickie ?

Reply before about 10pm tonight to go tomorrow.

I also am in need of some more fishing mates. The few I have either live miles away or spend months a year away fishing professionally. I have some good gear and a boat but not a whole heap of knowledge about fishing, still learning. Some might say I have all the gear and no idea !

Well a bad headache during the night saw me not leave home until about 7.30am. The run out tide made the bar look just a little too adventurous for me in my 4.2m tinny. I watched for about 20 and when a 7500 Sailfish cat turned around and went home, (if he's not game then Id be suicidal to go) I headed upstream for some fishing.
After an hour or so and 2 small flathead released I went back for another look at the bar. As the tide stopped running the bar settled and out I went. Well the current at black head was running about 3 knots to the south and there was about 5knots breeze from the south so . . I found it difficult if not near impossible to get my Sp's to the bottom (1/4ounce jig heads). The boat was drifting sth at about 1.5kts but due to the wind the current was faster. After an hour or so I headed back in. For the rest of the day fished SP between the dolphin wall and Emigrant Ck, then back around into Nth Ck. Total was 5 small or just legal flathead released, two bream released, both just legal but too small for me, a toad fish and a remora ? (Just looked it up, it was a Slender Suckerfish) Those fish that hang around under sharks with the sucker foot on their head. I saw a shark about 3 feet long jump near clean out of the water near the sailing club, he was spinning in the air. I cast over in his direction just for fun and caught the little slender suckerfish, he was about 35cms.

Anyone who wants to show a bloke how to fish SP properly, please send me a PM or call in to my work, youll find me there between 9 and 12 midday most weekdays and later in the afternoons if I feel like it. I manage the car wash in the industrial estate. Im also keen on offshore if anyone needs crew.
