    Re: humminbird side image help

I haven't had mine in the water yet, tomorrow's the day!

But there is a sensitivity setting, read the manual. It specifically talks about adjusting it for murky water.

I am one of those boring farts who has read the manual first! It's nice to have one that's readable - I also have Furuno gear in the boat; they couldn't write a manual to save their lives!!!

Col, try this site. It's full of info to help side imaging users.

When you get it working you'll find it's tremendous.

I'm going straight to the 35's tomorrow. I'm told the SI won't work in that depth (50 metres being the limit) but it will still see bait to the sides, which I think is a major benefit.

I'll see if I can get photos (I didn't get the screenshot card), and will make as many relevant comments as I can!

You can also change the colour it displays in. The default is that darker grey/nlue, but there are some brighter ones.

    Re: humminbird side image help

Thats a bummer about the 50meters max. That rules that out as a sounder for the deep water. Good luck for tomorrow. and looking forward to your feedback.

    Re: humminbird side image help

    Hi
Works fine in murky water - no problems in muddy creeks here.
Have you checked the sensitivity ? - could be that if set wrong - press menu once in the SI screen and scroll down til you find it
There is also a saltwater / freshwater setting - unlikely to be problem though
    Once sorted you'll love it
    regards

thanks jim i will have to have another play with it, im sure i tried the sensativity. stevea the unit has a normal dual beam sounder with all the bells and wistles as well for deeper water, it works fine. reguards col.

Not quite - the SI feature doesn't hit the bottom over 50 metres, but the sounder function works the same as usual. I can see the SI still being extremely useful in deep water, as it will still see bait within 50 metres of the surface up to 240 feet either side of the boat. Kinda handy, don't you think? (if it works, leaving in an hour!)

    Re: humminbird side image help

Col, something else, how does it work in the simulator mode.
It may help you sort out if it's a display brightness/gain problem and if that works ok and wont work in water, may be transducer.
There's also a software upgrade available on the humminbird side. It probably has nothing to do with your current problem but needs to be done to cure a couple of other problems.

    Re: humminbird side image help

Col, if you go to humminbird.com site you can register and create a profile of what you have. When you check your profile it keeps you up to date on what software revisions are available to you. The upgrade consists of downloading a file, copying it to a blank SD card and inserting it into your unit. Have a read of the procedure on humminbird site to make sure your familiar with the process before carrying it out. There is an important GPS change in the software which you really need to have updated as part of the update.
