hi ,
im looking for some advice from anyone with a 625 outsider who has fitted a 1kw transducer , either thru or in hull . just looking for pros and cons as to the best way to fit one and which one to get for the furuno fcv 585 .
thanks in advanced .

hi i have the furuno 585 transom mount 1kw mounted in a homemade fiberglass wet box full of cooking oil mouted in the centre of the hull at the back in front of the bilge pump, the box is sikaflexed to the hull. it works at 45knots and in any weather. many thanks jim
Marco, I ran a transom mount 1kW TM258 (I think it was that model) but the boat was ally so I really had no choice? It worked really well but next time I will try in hull fitting and plan the installationt properly. I read an article in one of the mags about the Cruise Craft 625 that the Furuno guys use. Here's a link to the news article: http://www.jntaylor.com.au/posts/index/9 nice transducer pics in this one!
Maybe give them or the Cruise Craft boys a call and they should be able to advise. Only problem I see with in hull is you will not get water temperature?
Marco, I have just read the Furuno news article and they have the FCV585 on their boat. It's a bit of a mission to find the nes story as the link I posted only takes you to their web page. Just click on fishing boats and then on view news archives. cheers Johnno
I have just been thru this issue with a 685, so think I can help here somewhat.
Only option for 1kW thru hull is the tilted element where this unit (or the wet box model infact), needs to be mounted out to the side of the bilge well due to keel plank. At high speed the keel plank causes some minor disturbance to water flow over this area, and hence there is a slight loss of bottom signal (to both T/D’s). You can still read the bottom, its just that it isn’t as crisp/clear as it is at lower speeds.
For thru hull Furuno suggested a straight 600W mounted thru the keel plank, and in CC’s this has proved to work best for high speed readings in deep water. Note, the diameter of a 1kW thru hull TE T/D is quite large, so it won’t fit thru the keel plank.
Their suggestion for best all round performance was a straight thru hull 600 (thru the keel plank) for speed, and a wetbox 1kW unit for slow work! I didn’t discuss the fairing block model with them, probably would be possible, but you could easily come to grief with the trailer rollers etc. cheers
Have put the 1kw tilted element in my haines 585 . Also have the 600w through the keel . They both work well . I wanted max depth so i went for the tilted element over the wetbox (don't know if it is better but not having to shoot through something you would hope it to be so) . The transom mount is out of the question for me as too much junk already hanging off the back .
It could be that i just like drilling holes in my hull . A 95mm holesaw is what you will need for the tilted element . its a little scary but don't let fear hold you back
