    Any good for Bait/ID

    Hey Guys,

I often catch fish not exactly the same as the one below but similar in the canal i live on in the Nerang River with a cast net, and i was just wondering if they are any good for live/dead bait? They seem the right size, about 6cm. Ive tried them in my canal with no success but my canal is tempermental with Bream. All help appreciated!!
And also if anyone knows the name of them that would be good aswell.

Might be a glassy perch. They can be ok bait, although i'd take a greenback or biddy over them. havent fished with them much to be honest. they are pretty hearty so they should stay alive if you dont sever the backbone.

Many a good fish has been caught on bony bream as bait. Mullet and herring are nearly always preferred but the bonies still work fine. I like to use a suicide about #1 or 1/0 and feed it up from the back half of the anal fin to out beside the top fin directly above it and fish them unweighted around snags. Big bream and jacks love them and flathead will rise to near the surface for one too.

    A very much under-rated livebait I believe.

these are great baits, i am not 100% sure on there name but i through one out at nudgee ck while cast netting for prawns, after about 5 minutes and 1/3 of a bucket of prawns later the rod went off brang it in to be a flatty about 65-70cm but lost him at the step.

Grant refers to them as the 'yellow perchlet'. I find them an OK live bait for bream and flathead but they usually get gilled in the cast net and it's fairly hard to get them out in good condition. If you get 50 or so in a single cast you've got about 20 minutes work just to clear the net!

    Yeh Freeeedom,

I have that problem sometimes, but i do get most of them out and chuk em back sometimes there stuck to bad and i pull heads off accidentaly . For the future ill use them as bait cause people seem to have caught fish on them before!

    Thanks Guys

Caught plenty of bream & flathead on them in the Nerang R. Good live bait in a pinch as they are easy to keep alive and always around. herring are better but harder to keep alive.
