    Jewfish on Shallow Reefs

On 2 recent trips to the close in reefs have caught a small (2kg) jew(silver not trag) each time. Bit of a surprise as I was hoping for a snapper,.

Anyone specifically fish for Jewfish on the shallow reefs and what the best fishing technique.I thought they schooled up but didn't seem anything much on the sounder? Thanks

lots of times you will catch fish and see nothing on the Sounder, which is why I reckon that you use the Sounder to find structure, not fish "shows" but that is another story, there has been many times I have caught Jewfish (big and small) in all sorts of conditions, remember they can be found right at your feet on the Rocks, to very deep reef areas, not to mention way up Creeks and Rivers best way to fish for them is live Bait (I reckon anyway) but many are taken on Lures and cut Baits, if you have caught a couple at different times, then I guess it indicates it maybe a place they "live" and indeed may be in huge schools nearby, but may also be loners, try it a few more times with live bait and see what you find.

There is alot of trag out the front of the pin, I have seen large schools showing on the sounder, they can however be on the bite or off the bite.

Sometimes the schools are so thick, but they just wont bite.
