Benefits of a cat or Tri Hull

Well, I will be the one to open this post up for the experts to have there input in...

    The way I see it

    Advantages of a Tri Hull

Less Horse Power need...Big $$$ Savings in Fuel and OB Purchases...
Definatly easier to operate, especially for a novice to medium operator.
    More stable than any Cat..
And if driven at the correct speed, then they are very, very comfortable to ride in...

    Disadvantages.......
Cats are a better ride, at higher speeds..

    Disadvantages of owning a Cat

Big Horse power needed to power the bigger cats...
Which equates to huge fuel bills..
They can be and are dangerous in the wrong hands..
Each different brand of cat has its + and -, eg, Devil cats are great in a head punch, but real dogs in a following sea, ect ect ect ect..

If Cat owners want to run around doing 40 + knots, blowing all other boats away in there path, so be it....I call them SHOW OFFS............and they are usually the ones who get themselves into trouble....

For Me.....20 - 25 knots ....thats fast enough so everyone is comfortable...

If it gets real Sh!tty, then 15 knots always gets me home

well, I will be the first to "bite" seeing as you have the troll lines set, not too sure how a Tri can be more stable than a Cat, could you just explain the Science behind that, next, why more Power for a Cat over a Tri?? maybe with a Tri you could have 1 Motor, that's a plus if that's what you want, now more dangerous?? that will also take some explaining for us slow Cat thinkers.

Well Noel, I have been in and operated plenty of cats.....I dont see many bigger models, eg 7-9meter cats that will operate with such low horsepower like my tri hull, twin 115 yammie FS, 30 knots WOT 20 Knots Cruise and plane at just 9 knots , now name one cat that will match those figures..

As for stability........Believe me, There is no comparison

I just want to know; do I buy a big box or a little box of popcorn? . I mean is this going to be a test match or a slam bang one dayer??

Seriously, looking forward to "learning" more about Tris and Cats

Pop corn box size depends on which boat your getting into

Little box for a cat, Dont want them rolling over and big box for a tri,

I guess the big question is.... which boat is more stable at rest whilst the electric winches and reels are winding in drop lines loaded with fish.
That would be my main concern.

Benefit of each depends on personal interpretation I would expect.

What suits you doesn’t suit other people etc.

I have no preference for any other reason as I have a Mono but I must say the tri hulls look a bit gay to me.

Have not seen yours Snelly, only a couple at the Brisbane boat show so no offence intended to you.
