    Hi Chaps,
Would someone please assist a greenhorn with an ID of this fish. Also can you tell me their catch style?

    Hi Dave and scotth
I am sure it is not a ludrick (Black Fish) as I cut my Teeth on them in Woy Woy, Gosford when i was a boy it looks like a silverbitty however saying this photo does not do this image justice
Question scotth where did you catch it on what bait was you using or did you catch in a castnet

    Cheers

Re: Please assist with Fish ID

Not a boney bream or silverbiddy, silver drummer might be on the money.. Noel said in your other post he didn't think it was a sweep...

    cheers

Re: Please assist with Fish ID

I really think that it is a Luderick, after reviewing pics on Google but it different have any grey or dark bands that I could make out. Mainly just a slatey grey with a fat soft belly and rather large eyes. I didnt have the heart to kill it and let it go as I thought it looked loaded with eggs.
It was not easy to catch and didnt hit the bait. It seemed like it was just bumping the crusty prawn head I had on the hook. I think they just hang on the line mouthing the bait. After around 30secs of bumping the bait I grew patient went for the strike and then just felt pretty well a dead weight

    Hi Scott,

I'd jump on the sweep wagon - smallish mouth, silver under, slatey grey upper about bread and butter plate size - get enough and you have a reasonable feed
