    Threadfin on Fly!

Just to let you know they take flies too! This time a 113cm and an 85cm both released.

As they say "You have to make hay while the sun shines!" Little one put up a better fight than the big one which was a bit lame!

Must be getting sick of me bragging so won't post another Threadie Thred until we crack the 150!

    Regards,

    Richo

    Nice work there mate.

Funny this report came up because a mate of mine wanted to know if they take flies. Well I guess I can tell him now that they do and it was in the dark as well. Nice effort there mate.

    Cheers

Can't wait for this report as well.

20 lb leader i went with 60 for that exact reason Just in case the mother of all threadys jumps on.

I guess this proves one thing that they are not leader shy

    Cheers

Not sure of the exact name for the fly but going with a , Resin head clouser 4/0 trying to imitate a prawn in colour which the fish were feeding on, used 30lb leader which worked well however had to re-tie after each fish due to minor abrasion. Was caught on a Tom Thumb 7foot rod by Gary Howard done on a Samuri Blank, alvey fly reel, 10 weight, intermediate line. In hindsite the rod was probably too heavy, a 8/9 weight would have worked fine. Short rod was great to use as I'm a novice Fly Caster and the fish were close to the boat - Sight casting towards the bow waves of hunting fish

Find the bait, combined with a good run out tide and your off to a good start. Look for the signs of feeding fish

They definately use those barbels, if the fly or plastic insn't right in front of them they generally don't touch it. Seem to miss a few more using the Fly but that was probably because of the slack line caused by the current making it harder to keep the tension in the line while retrieving by hand.

Fly no way. Must have ran like a bugger cause my 14 pound took of like a freight train on my 105cm beast and on fly must have been bent over like crazy. Well done and good post.
