Had a great mornings fishing off the bank at Bribie yesterday. I fished the rock wall by the bridge on the island side on the run in tide and got a 46 cm flathead right in close to the stones on a Gulp Turtleback worm. I then had some fun with the Choppers under the bridge lights until the sun was really up and moved down to Buckleys Hole.
Plenty of bait around there but for three hours I only managed a 42cm Flathead on a 4" Gulp Minnow. I had a couple of bite offs and good runs and got a look at a Tailor that was responsible for one of them.
As we approacehd low tide at lunch time I waded out along the flats on the other ( mainland) side of the bridge toward the jetty casting as I walked. About 3rd cast I thought I was snagged but then the wriggling started and I knew I was onto a good lizard. I towed her back to the bank but she kept heading back out so it took a while. Eventually I got her safely to the mud and up the bank for a weigh in and a few pics and then back in the drink to fight another day. Then she swam off fine.
I headed back off along those sand banks and managed a 48cm and a 45 cm just past the jetty and cable crossing in the reed beds - both on the Gulp 4" Minnow in Smelt.
All fish caught on the a 7ft 4-6 kg Dropshot, 1.8 kg Fireline 12lb Fuoro Leader,(with the choppers around its difficult to go any lighter at present). Some on 1/6th 1 jig heads and some on 1/4s.
A great days fishing.

Nice fish there buddy, looks like its going to be a great season for flatty. I think the change in min and max limits has clearly improved the quality and quantity of fish around..
The fireline is pretty tough - I think they are very conservative on their breaking strains - if you can avoid the snags usually its the 10lb or 12 lb leader that snaps just as you are trying to drag the big mothers up onto the sand/ mud.
Fantastic lizard mate. There was a hell of a lot of bait out the front of reddy last week, so maybe the same around there. I bet she flogged you on such light gear! Awesome.
