    Queensland Weekender in Keppels

We took Deano and Taryn from Queensland Weekender for a day's fishing about 3 weeks ago around the Keppel Islands and along the coast to the north.
The show will go to air this Saturday 5:30 on 7. There will be the usual beach walks, sailing etc, but the fishing stuff should be good, and well worth a look.

We caught plenty of red jew, cod, sweetlip, grunter, trevally, etc

I haven't got the photos from the actual trip yet, but I have some examples from the same area the trip before them, earlier this year.

If it was a smallmouth I wouldn't have taken a photo. Your eyes must be as bad as mine.

There is a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot

I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges

Hey JT I think it was hiding in amongst all of those Keppel Trout Pillie keeps talking about!!!!!!

They funniest thing I ever heard on the VHF was two old blokes having a chat and one of them says, "I don't know where that Pillie gets all of his information from, but there aint no Keppel Trout anywhere near as thick as he says there is!"

    Wayne,
Deano, taryn and their crew are really nice people. We operate Keppel Bay Escapes with 2 new 11m Voyager cats and some older bareboats. We thought the cats would mainly do bareboating, but we have a lot of interest from fishing charters. I'm not sure how much of the half hour will be the fishing stuff. If it was my call it would be 29mins fishing...and 1 min of Taryn snorkelling in a bikini

    JT,
We took Deano for a run along the coast to the north, mainly around Manifold. You are right, not many grassies that big in the Keppels. We also did a run up to Island Head Creek on Mayday looking for GT's. You should see that footage on Pillies spot this friday. There were heaps of big lippas along the coast.
    Rat Catcher,
There are plenty of trout around the Keppels. Fish in summer or autumn, fish VERY shallow and fish large baits, big wa pillie or larger, fish rocky and broken stuff.
