DPI Fishing Survey

Well i guess it wont be long before you'll all be whingeing about all the interruptions while yer trying to catch a fish.Water police to check safety gear & blow in the bag , boating & fishing patrol to check safety gear & fish sizes and bag limits , EPA to chase yer out of the green zones count the number of hooks in the yellow zones .Happy fishing and boating folks

oh yer i forgot . When yer get back to the ramp the friendly researcher might like to have a yarn and measure your fish . He's the bloke that fishes and boats like you and wishes to christ that he could do something about all you fellas that don't know what you'iv caught and what size it should be.

Yeah 15 years ago when the DPI was less inward looking and ideological you would have a point, today that bloke at the ramp could just as commonly be a bloke killing time and gaining positional leverage or research credit all the while applying for his dream position in the EPA, conservation council, PETA even...seen it!!

I've been there, worked there and seen it. DPI are a good bunch of people but they have no choice in the political agenda, so if EPA is given a bigger piece of the pie then DPI have to eat the crumbs.
Just imagine you were a public servant and you needed to up your wage to end-up with the best superannuation when you retire. Would you fight the system or go the political line to get a promotion?
EPA seem to be a an arrogant bunch of Greenies and I have no time for them. I include Parks and Wildlife in that group, now too.
My standard answer is "I don't do drugs or surveys".

I didn't get a survey with my rego renewal. Maybe they knew how I would respond?

Or... maybe they are getting too many people phoning, emailing or writing letters to say they won't do the survey and explaining, in no uncertain terms, why they aren't going to be co-operative in future.

Rather than try and sabotage their survey by giving wrong information (as has been suggested by some posts), a deluge of letters/emails to tell DPI&F that we will never give them information again because of the fact that DPI&F handed EPA the information that had been given by recreational fisho's (in good faith) last time, would strike harder.

I can't imagine how any beaurocrat could think that people are so stupid as to fall for that treachery again!

Loss of public faith and the free information recreational fisho's used to provide so willingly to the DPI&F, may now mean the Government has to go the expensive route of paying professional field operatives to get the same research material.
