I have heard figures like 1 to 2 hundred million sharks per year die as a result of finning.

    Re: Shark Finning

I was in Singapore in 2002 on Business, and was told by the folks I worked for that I had to eat whatever was offered, as it was Chinese New Year. You guessed it, shark fin soup was on the menu.

I was already on the record as disapproving of their practice of finning sharks and chucking them back alive, but I smiled and tucked in, so that Business could be done (and therefore I kept my job, fed my family, and so on).

And you know what? While I still disapprove of the practice, VEHEMENTLY (unless the rest of the shark is used), the soup was absofrigginlutely delicious!!!

you also need to remember that Shark Fins are processed almost in your Backyard, it is not just practised by other Nations, we must clean up our own act before we start throwing stones at others.

    Re: Shark Finning

nothing wrong with eating sharkfin soup. It's just like eating cavia ( spelling).

I saw a documentry on TV. Bears only eat the eggs of dog salmon and dingo's eat the brains.

It is a waste, So the governmnets need to make better use of the shark bodies. Sharks fillets are better then Basa fillets right.

Oops, I just read my comment below, and see that I implied "they" (Singapore) fin the sharks. Thanks for the poke in the ribs, I know it happens here too, and it's no good.

The waste is one thing, but chucking the poor thing back in, alive and unable to swim, just seems too dumb for words. Or am I just a big softy?
