Question Need help... Marine Radios - 27 Meg and VHF

I have started having problems with my radios. It appears that I can hear everyone else out there but no one can hear me. I have tested my VHF with a neighbour across the road and he can't hear me but I receive his message loud and clear. I can also hear the Port of Brisbane from my driveway in Strathpine clear as day. I was told that that it may just be my aerial but was hoping someone out there might be able to clarify for me. Thanks.

Perhaps the PTT switch on the microphone is shagged.

Take the aerial off your mates radio, then try to call him.
Weird that BOTH radio's have an issue tho...

Its possible that its power related. Check all connections from battery to radio. If their is a bad connection, the power might be dropping at the radio when you are pressing the PTT. If this happens it will definately not be helping.

sounds like a hand pice to me,we have this problem all the time at work with the UHF's people can not hear you but you can hear every one . Get your hands on a different hand pice and give it a go.

Finga (Scott) the guru, once advised me that it took more battery to transmit than receive. This could explain the transmission failure.

I had the same issue, but my radio and antenna was definitely cactus and were replaced.

check your power and all leads and connections first...

can you check the battery's specific gravity or on load voltage?

SG should be around 1.25 (fully charged) and or load voltage no less than 11.4v
