    Question HP and KMH

    Hello again guys,
yes i have yet another question...can anyone tell me how to work out what the speed would be for a certain HP outboard? i realise that it would have something to do with the hull shape etc. but recently i asked for a quote to insure my new boat, and they asked me how fast it is rated for? i told them that it was a 60 HP outboard, and had no idea how fast it would go until i recieved it. but intil then, i have no idea.

My insurer is only interested in two speeds...........whether the max speed is 60kts or greater, or whether the MS is < 60 kts.

Find out the magic cutoff figure from the PDS online and advise them accordingly.

I doubt your rig, with the for'd reptilian ballast, will be in the upper scale!

kind of no real way to say speed to HP, you might have (say) a 175HP motor on a slow displacement barge, and propped accordingly it may only do 8 knots, there is more to speed than HP (but it helps of course)

    Hi JR
after placing a similar post not long ago I was given good direction by a couple of smart blokes and I found that this was the best all round easy calc and your boats constant is between 172 and 180 aprox so use this link and put in your figures easy as that
