the point im trying to make is you can only manualy winch on one boat at a time at cabbo ramp . if this is the way you choose to do it happy days but show some curtisy and dont block the rest of the ramps wait until the ramp next to the beach is free. Yeah i know i was on the water and not at work but was having such a cracking session that i stayed out to long (calculated to the last second ) with the hold up i was late for work ! just one last cast bit me in the bum!!! oh yeah when ive have a mate with me i have often helped people load boats but i only had my young sons with me and missus waiting impatiencely for us .Yes because of the parking problem there when i take the boys out she drops us in the water and then i ring her and she comes to get us.

At cabbage tree point boat ramp today had to had to turn deck wash on myself to cool myself off. Boat ramp can fit four across but normaly 3 at a time .Today weve got three parrots with empty trailers lined up but only putting on one boat at a time as none of these boaters were capbable of driving their boats on trailers even thow they were all multiroller trailers they just wait until the guy closest to the beach side of the ramp retreived his boat and then pull their boat across efectively block ing the free ramp space even worse some of their replacements on the ramp had the same practice .it took 30 minutes to retrive 5 boats .if there going to lead their boats on to the trailer from sand (beach side ) they should all line up for that one ramp and let the rest of us get on with it
I'll be certain to launch and retrieve my boat on the far side from now on if I use cabbage Tree ramp again:grin:

Try the ramp at Kawana sometime then you will chaos. One day the ramp was packed and this boaty with too much cash and not enough brain decided it was his right to wash his boat and block one side of the ramp. I bit my tongue and just think to myself what a ars*hole.

Whew! It's funny reading this thread. It seems the more it progresses, the more people polarise.
C'mon people, I really think there are some who are posting in response, who are looking for the worst in the prior poster. This thread was all about people on ramps who don't think about the others following, but it is degenerating into God knows what.
Some folks aren't reading to understand, they're just out to dig up a "snapper head" that isn't there, so they can chuck it

Yesterday some young fellas came down to Fig Tree Pocket ramp and I was waiting with the boat on the mud (so called beach) right next to the ramp to get out...instead of coming down to see if anyone was coming out they drove straight down the ramp. Thats probably not so bad because I hadnt got my trailer there yet, but it meant they couldnt just pull there boat over to the beach - which for them was ok because they were going straight out. Having said that they then spent 5 mins plus sticking tote tanks in and taking straps off and mucking about...but I wasnt worried (wasnt late for work either which obviously makes a difference). I am usually amused for the most part. I love watching how people do their stuff at the ramps.
The poor young buggers had a 140 Chrysler on the back and of course it didnt start...it ran the battery flat and they had to get their truck back nose first to jump it...they said sorry and were embarrased and I told them not to worry about it because it happens. They then buggered off and I let a fella retrieve his little 14 foot ski boat with a bunch of young kids in it before me and then I got mine.
I reckon that when you go fishing you expect delays at the ramp..if then there are no delays whacko! I just love everything to do with boats. Last time I used the boat club at Clevelend there was a bloke in a brand spanker glass boat with a new version of my motor. He was at the beach near the ramp. I tied off to the Pontoon to go get the truck and had a chat to him about his motor. He was by himself. I offered to hold his boat while he backed down. He asked if we would mind giving him a chance to drive his boat on...no probs and helped him line up and he got within 1 foot of the winch post and I hooked him up and winched him on. He then offered to help me, but I had a mate and we were pretty slick at getting the Vagabond on so I said no but thanks....its all good.

I guess it all comes down to conditions, like at my "Local" if the Wind comes up early or quickly, it is just mayhem at the Ramp, most people sort of get into a "system" one in, one lined up, out, then next in, one lined up and so it goes UNTILL, you get some Pea brain that thinks the middle of the Ramp is a good spot to remove all the gear, fit all the tie downs, lower the Canopy and everything else that could possibly be done to annoy those in the queue, from then on, it moves into sh!t storm mode, yelling and frazzled tempers become the norm, and it just get worse and worse, if the person doing the holding up is a newbie, then explain, and offer assistance, if he is a d!ckhead, then maybe a bit of "advice" might not go astray, but a full on knock down killing spree will not help anyone, and will only make things much worse for those waiting, as you yell at each other, temper seems to be contagious for some reason.
People need to learn to orgranise thier boat before they get it in the water or vise versa when they are comming in and if they arnt so good at putting it in make sure they have someone with them who knows what they are doing.. Victoria point can be a nightmare when i come in sometimes around the gentlemens hour of the day when they are all putting there boats in. Half of them put thier boat in the water then decide its time to load it up.
It does my head in when i can launch my boat by myself, park the car, walk back down quicker then most others can with someone holding thier hand
Slow people are OK, they can't help being useless, you just offer them a hand, they will learn.
But queue jumpers are a totally different matter, they are arrogant dicks full of their own self importance, and really get me going. Like that ahole at the Nudgee ramp who parked his tinny on the pontoon between my boat and the ramp and when I got there with my trailer I couldn't get my boat out and he wouldn't shift it.
At Cabbage tree if no-one is parked right on the beach side of the ramp I back down onto the sand and do beach retrieve. Easier to walk it on from there than at the end of that shite ramp.

I think I am with Tidas-- Hope i don't strike you blokes at a ramp.
I know it can be annoying but have you all thought about when you first started out-- perhaps a kind word or an offer of help would be far better than standing around with a cross look on your face. Not al people are able to or are capable of driving their boats on and off a trailer--- or are as experienced as some.
We have had a couple of times when we have had a little trouble loading our boat for one reason or another and find most people are only too willing to help you out. On the reverse if I saw someone having a spot of bother i would offer some help.
Maybe next time abit of patience and a friendly gesture would be more appropriate than doing nothing except getting upset.??????

It takes me at most 5Mins or so to launch and retrieve the 6.0Mtr glass boat on my own, which I think is pretty reasonable. But I have to laugh at some of the so called 'professionals' who like to show off their driving skills at the ramp, hitting their drowned trailers at 8Knots and then looking around for applause. I saw one regular the other day misjudge and wind up on his mudguard. If he'd cleared that he would've wound up on my back.
Sometimes too, particularly with new boats, people should remember there may be some set-up issues with rollers, etc. adding extra time to your standard launch and retrieve.
Rather than stripping the keel of gelcoat, I make bloody sure I'm dead on centre everytime before driving up, and don't rush a thing. I think the issue is more with the bloke who parks his boat and trailer on the ramp whilst he boils the kettle, changes engine oil and polishes the boat before heading home.
Always offer a helping hand - don't know anyone who would turn it down if you needed help for the sake of self-pride. Some days when the cross wind is howling on a shitty ramp, managing 2 - 3 tonnes can be greatly assisted by another person.
