forster/ tuncurry-smiths trip

Had a really fun trip down to forster tuncurry recently and did quite well considering it rained almost every day i was there for 2 weeks. With wallis being almost totally fresh from the crazy 2 week downpours we decided to go to this awesome little landlocked saltwater lake called smiths and we pretty much cleaned up there catching like 20 to 30 legal flatties and bream per day, every cast was getting smashed by small flatties and bream i even scored my 1st little tailor there and i do mean little lol. We only kept two fish the whole time i was there both caught on 2.5 inch berkley watermelon pearl to my surprise (i never catch big fish on anything this small back in boyne). The water in smiths was also almost completely fresh to but it didnt seem to matter at all in fact the more it rained the better it got there.
Not sure how big the bream was didnt measure it but we wieghed it and it went 1.2kg and the flattie we did measure and it went 69.5 cm. both fish were taken on10 pound braid with 12 pound leader.
I will probably take some heat from people on the boards for keeping this flattie but it wasnt over legal size and we wanted one good feed of fish while we were there..... and that we got.

Even if the lizard was over 70 you can keep one in NSW. Its a great spot Smiths lake. Spent a lot of time in that area surfing and fishing. It was only about 1.5 - 2hrs from my place in newcastle.They actually open the lake up after too much rain so it doesnt overflow into a couple of low lying towns. When they do this the waves at the front of it are awesome and the fishing is good for jews and the like waiting for all the food to flush out. Did you enjoy a beer in the Rec club? Ahh the memories.

Yea fairplay.
I was born and raised there too, lived there for 17 years then left then went back to work on the oyster leases then i left again and im up north now. My family still are oyster farming there place is the little house up on godwin island and another shed back towards the mainland (im sure you wouldve seen the house on godwin as its hard to miss) we decided not to go stay in the house this time coz of the fresh and stuff but i'l be back there very soon to give it a bash there.
LOL the bream ive seen there and in adjacent leases are absolutely enormous and i still to this day have never seen in person or seen any pictures of bream caught that are the size of the biggest ones ive seen there, but i guess they dont get that big by being easy to catch aye.
Kicking myself for not being into fishing when i lived there.
