    d.i.y. guide change.

G'day all, I have a 7'6 live fibre that has a damaged guide that I would like to change myself. Is this somthing that can be done relatively easily or do you need to know how to build rods from scratch. I am interested in rod construction but have never known where to go or who to talk to, to be taught.
    Any help would be appreciated.

mate it is an easy job to change guides. If you wanted to get down to the fine details you can make the job a lot more detailed. Where are you located

    Hi Mamu
Its not to hard to put a new guide on at all. If you have a Wilson Live Fibre rod it will either have Fuji or Pac Bay guides on it.
You can go to Pacific Bays website and have a look through there guides here
    www.fishpacbay.com
Or if you want to post a pic of it up I can probably tell you what guide it is.
Now if you want to fix the guide only and don't plan on getting into rod building it will probably be more cost effective to pay a rod builder or tackle shop to replace the guide as you will have to buy a spool or two of thread as well as a couple of ounces of thread finish and that will give you enough thread and finish to do a number of rods but will be more expensive then paying someone to replace the guide but like I said if you plan on getting into rod building you will have a lot of thread and finish to use on at least a few rods you will build in the future
If you are planing on getting into rod building I will warn you it is very addictive, once you build one rod you will want to build more.
When getting into rod building I would recommend getting yourself a few books or DVD's as a starter and try to meet up with someone already building rods near you and they can show you a few things to get you started.
Its a lot of fun and it is not rocket science I think I have a few video's I could probably lend you.

ant , I live in the northern Gold Coast area (Ormeau).I have had rods fixed previously by budds at Cleveland but it is a long way to go just for that ( they did a great job )

Oz rods Thanks for the advice, I am interested in rod building and more so the science of what makes a rod behave the way it does.
I would love to watch someone experienced do it to get a idea of the complexity but to get back to your response, thanks for the offer of loaning some instrustional dvds etc, if you could post the names of them ,I will see if I can lend them from the local libary to save any drama.
    thanks,
    Matt.
