    Double island with boat??

Planning on heading up to Double Island on the 12th of June for 4 days (pending weather) but haven't been up that way for a few years.

What is the beach like from noosa north shore to freshwater at the moment? and what is the best way to get across to rainbow beach to launch the boat?

I remember there used to be 2 tracks (from memory freshwater was the longer one and another one that was further north was shorter??)

Never beach launched either but there will be 3 or 4 other boats and these guys go every year so i guess i'll just follow the leader but want to get as many tips and tricks to help make it as easy and pain free as possible.

    Cheers

Plaztix, towing the boat along the beach won't be a problem at all as there is plenty of it. Is still a couple of patches of coffee rock on the beach so if travelling at night, be aware. Was a few 6 - 7m vessels towed up yest afternoon and listening to how calm the sea sounds atm, I bet they're launching right now. Take the 2nd cut onto the beach is the firmest cutting. The Leisha Track is just north (700m approx) of where the Cherry Venture used to be and is the way over to Rainbow. There is a 'monument' where the CV was - looks like the Parks and Wildlife honesty boxes that are used to collect camping fees.
Launching the boat will be comfortable also in the lagoon - turn right when you come out on the Rainbow side of the Leisha track.
Travel to Rainbow from D.I. still a no go.

Thanks for that Shano. I haven't worried about going up for a while as everyone kept saying the trees were still in the water. Good news indeed.

Thanks Lindsay, always good to get local knowledge. I will hassle you for an update closer to the day.

Thanks shano, that is good news, how low was that tide and how much beach was exposed? Hate to get stuck halfway with nowhere to go

How much soft sand is there on leisha track? My mate, whos cruiser we were going in cant get the time off, so am looking at the options re. tow vehicle for my boat. The missus' X trail goes OK on the beach but doesn't like too much soft sand (the transmission overheats and cuts back to 2wd ) if its only short sections (like 200m- 300m or so) of soft stuff it should be OK.

    Re: Double island with boat??

I think the Xtrail would struggle getting on to the Leisha Track on the southern side Plaztix. Is a build up of sand at the crest (I assume it's still there) which is a little tricky without a boat if you're not organised for it. I'm likely to head up that way some stage this week so will keep you informed on that one. My Lux would get it through .....

Ahhh, yes - Freshwater Rd to Rainbow and then back down the beach on dead low only. Not much fun.
I wasn't aware of the track closure, so thanks for the heads up on that one Snasman - was going up tomorrow but that would now be a canned trip. You'd think they'd try and do the work during the week hey.

the trees are still there and probably about 300 mtrs from the leisha track towards rainbow the trees are close to the water! after that there is plenty of beach,we went through on almost low tide! no problems! the leisha track was easy both ends to get on and off! i was in an 96 pajero automatic!

Someone was doing just that a couple of months ago when the rangers turned up - they didn't get to finish the job.

    Re: Double island with boat??

was up there last weekend and the southern side of leisha track was a little soft (similar to the first cutting) you might struggle with the xtrail and boat although usually plenty of people willing to help you out if you get stuck.
