    Epirb from the states

Can anyone tell me if a 406Mhz epirb purchased in the states can be registered in Australia. If so I can buy a dig Epirb for 160 us dollars delivered which is a lot less than here.

Another example of ridiculous price differences for the same item.

most us epirbs I have seen have been more expensive than those in oz
is it personal beacon or a propper mounted beacon?

Oh...cant see a single reason why it wouldn't be registrable here ...it's just a form you need to fill out..

    1. Before you can claim such a statement you will first need to outline what the item is, who makes the item, model number of item

    2. The next step will be then to check the list of approved beacons to see if in fact it is listed as such

    3. Can you provide the necessary details?

People I stand corrected.. particularly my apology to satnav..... The epirb in question des transmit an incorrect country code as well as a secondary transmittion over the old 121.5 freq and thanks to Chine's link it would not be registerable in Aust.

    Stingau,

    Good result & good post!

The 121.5Mhz secondary TX signal is integral with the 406 unit to allow SAR vessels/aircraft to home in on the transmitting EPIRB. This just hastens the retrieval process.
