    Nice ID Orrsum,

    a couple of links that seem to confirm it is a Grass Whiting. Related to the King George apparently;

    Cheers Dave, they are apparently not as good on the chew as a king george.

    Re: Fish ID

    thanks, but, while they look similar in some respects, the bars on the pic are white/whitish & the anal fin is totally different, it is a lot longer & narrower than the grass whiting. i probably should have said it came from around Brisbane, is the grass whiting caught around here??

    Re: Fish ID

    Looks like a variation of sharp-nosed wrasse, the shape being perfect but the colours not?

    Grants Guide says it is a Sharp nosed wrasse Ranging from great barrier reef to torres strait and on occasion specimens are found amongst catches from southern parts of moreton bay. It is considered good eating.

    Still not sure about the colour though, and the eye seems too large? Cigar wrasse go through several colour changes as they mature or mate.

    She/He looks better now :-)
