The theory i have been told, since starting fishing in Mackay, is that whiting are best on the incoming tide. Apparently the incoming tide disturbs the sand and exposes/flushes tiny bait around. I understand the principle but have to admit that you can cast for a couple of hours for little result. Sometimes it is a game of inches, and that by moving after each throw enhances your chances.

yeah mate shes all landbased up there except for leichhardt creek and the shoals. If you have access to a boat then head out to the shoals and give it a troll with spoons, will pick up a few good macks. Or throw some pots in leichhardt as you will get excellent crabs. the creek is almost untouched

Guys, if you boating, try the mouth of sandfly creek, sit in about 3 to 4 foot of water and they just seem to school up there. about 20 to 30 metres off the pipe.

Another spot is the sand flats at the front of Ross River, ready supply of bait if you have a yabbie pump.

One trick if you have some old prawn baits, squash em up a little and nick one of the wifes stockings (Corey just use your own). shove the prawns in and use a short rope, just drop it in at the edge of the water, so that they are just covered by the water and this should bring the whiting to you.

last two hours of the run out n first two hours of the run in. again shortly before the tide reaches it max and a wee bit after it turns..They have a habit of going off right on the top n bottom of the tide..
Happens that way for me anyhows ..
But then again i manly fish deep holes n gutters for my Whiting...
    Cheers

I will have to put up a comprehensive report whether I catch or not and hopefully the feedback will be forthcoming
