I know the whiting are about to start biting up here in N Qld. Just wondering the best times to target them. Early mornings or late afternoons. In-coming tides or out going tides.
yeah kev, even when landbased only one line one hook off Pallerenda. IF you feel like a drive, I've had great success from Toomulla beach on an outgoing tide.
In that case Kev, you could try down around the boat ramp at the national park in Railway Estate. There have been some reports of a few being caught there.
there's a little landbased spot on stoney creek off the Bohle that I visit that always gives up a feed or 2 on an incoming tide. Also ok for small but legal grunter.
if you get a chance come down to alva beach(lynch beach) good land spot also for the mrs and kids . yabbies at the southern end but just fish straight of where you park the car . 50 to a hundred in a session is quite common any how just follow all the grey nomads who drive up from victoria every year to catch them. they are just starting to arrive now in numbers, a lot a bit small yet but as soon as we have a few of those cold S W winds the whiting will be in by the bucketful's . i am so glad there bringing in bag limits on them though at present there numbers are as strong as ever but when you see pros dragging out 4 tonne at a time you just have to wonder.
Mate if your up for a drive then head on up to toomulla, get there just on the incoming tide and work the bars between saltwater creek and campoven creek. I fish it quite regularly with a mate who lives there and i cant think of one trip that i have gone bad on, we bring atleast 20 in each time. We fish it anytime of the day, night time doesnt produce.
