    Internal diameter is 41mm.

    My rod butts are 37mm.

    - giving 2mm clearance all around.

Will this be too tight in this rod holder?

just a word of caution guys when you undo the mounting bracket look inside and you will see it is welded to the actual tube thr rod sits in, this is the weld that cracked in mine. as i was mucking around putting a rod in and it fell off in my hand, could be a disaster if putting a rod in and not yet secured by lanyard and it breaks off! so i just used a tig to weld it on the outside, i use them for trolling, do the allen keys bolts up tight with a lubricant so they dont seize and they are tight enough for most things even big hex heads, keep em low as possible for trolling. lanyards are a must. also great for deadsticking plastics. I found the locktite was needed as well

Yea, why they do not spend a little more and weld them properly is beyond me. Apart from that they are good units and ours are 6 or 7 years old

I just use some polyester cord and a SS clip as a lanyard

I see now, so it might be a good idea to attach the lanyard, not in case the rods fall out, but in case the rod holder snaps off!

    thanks for the advice.

Death Ship and others - I have just receinved these rod holders and yes, the spot wleds are ordinary. I will be tigging mine up as well.

The bolts do not look like SS316. I think I change these as well.

I am also concerned how far the rod sits out of the actual rod holder itself.

If I drill these pins out and slide the rod right through - do u think this is viable and fishable?
