Manly harbour

G'day gents and gals,
Well the yammie is still in pieces waiting for the parts to be delivered so couldn't get the boat out for a spin ......Decided to hop on down to Manly harbour for a quiet one and chase a bream or 3 and just generally get out of the house. What a gorgeous night. Tried spot X for nil result. Just a couple of pickers. Moved to spot Y and the same. Decided to give spot A 3/4 a go....you know 3 up, 4 behind and 200 m to the right of the ole pine tree. Yep thats it!!
Thought it was going to be a no fish night (not even the proverbial church mouse was stirring) and then just as the tide turned things started moving. The bait fish were being harrassed relentlessly. Hmmmm I thought I might just get me a scale after all. Anyway the first hit was a corker .... reel screaming and I'm on.....38cm squire...You beauty second hit was a tad slower but produced a 39cm squire. Dropped 2 other decent hits and then the bream moved in for a while. Ended up catching and releasing 7 bream between 25cm and 28cm and 2 rat squire about 15cm. Decided to call it a night as the bream were getting almost embarrassing in size and as I picked up the last rod it too took off and I landed another 34.999cm squire. All up I caught the 2 keeper squire, 2 smaller squire and 11 bream. Not too bad for 1 3/4 hours after the tide turned I must say. Manly harbour is getting better and better all the time. Sure the squire are not monsters but for landbased I'm half impressed. I just hope that you other fisherfolk enjoyed your time on the water tonight as I did.

Yep certainly did Cindy. the doctor ordered a double dose of medicine so I might just have to go and have another crack tonight

Well done mate. My best squire out of the harbour is 39cm. Might see you down there some time.

Well I did what the doctor ordered and went and got my second dose. Man the picker bream were crazy. Didn't get a good hit all night. Mate picked up a decent table sized flattie though. Probably threw back 1/2 dozen bream to 28cm but I don't keep anything under 30cm. There was a lot more boat traffic tonight so I think the noise probably caused the bigger fish into hiding from me. Doesn't matter as I got the smell of the sea air in my nostrils again. Besides it was another night's entertainment watching the boaties at the ramp.
Steve, I'll keep my eye out for you, I drive a white pajero. Love to catch up some time and share some info.

What are the best bait or lures around the harbour, I will be going there soon - better than the river at the minute where I am fishing........

Mate I am a smelly bait fisherman so don't know about the lures etc. I have been getting my fish of late using pillies and foul gut. As the weather cools down and the bream get bigger and more abbundant I will swap over to using mulletr fillet. Tailor and mackeral should make an appearance soon so keep a good supply of pillies with you. One thing i have learned is that Manly harbour does not fish well in the same place two nights in a row ( as was proved once again last night). I believe the fish move within the confines of the harbour relevant to the wind and bait movement. Good luck and let us know how you go.
