Hi all
Does any one know if it is possible to hire epirbs for those who only venture out about the same amount of times that xmas comes
The new 406 seem to be a lot more expensive than the ones being phased out

I do not know of anyone doing this.
That could be worth investigating for people like coastguards as a money raiser. $50 for a weekend and $50 deposit to be handed in upon return to port.
I think that could well add quite a few thousand dollars per unit per year. Even at 50% hire out time per weekend it is still $1300 per year per unit. I would imagine places like Redcliffe and Manly coastguards and VMR's could handle maybe 5 for hire at any time at least and have good hire out usage.
Jack.
A few places I found that hire them out. I am not sure how they will handle the registration process for the 406 Mhz versions though?

The are a whole lot more that hire out PLBs, but they are buskwalkers etc, not for marine use.

Yep I agree
It would be benificial for Coastguard / Air Sea Rescue to hire out only in certaian ports.. This would generate revenue for them. I presume the registering would be electronic and if someting did happen it would be registered to each vessel each time it departs...![]()
1. Definitely would not be possible or practical to re-register Epirb for each rental
2. Registered to the hiring organisation would be all that is required.
The limited time i would head off shore I'm finding it hard to justify the outlay.
But a 50 once in a blue moon is something i could justify.
