I've got a DS600X. It's my second one and fogs up but seems to go away after a while. I sent the first one back and they returned it but still probs so sent it back again and they replaced it. I've just accepted it as normal now.

I own a DS500x which had the dreaded fog monster inside but no more. There is an easy fix in the form of silica gel pack. you will require a fairly small one to fit.The unit is easy to open just remove the 4 #1 phillips screws in rear cover then the # 10 torx screws in body proper.seperate the two plonk your pack in{ i went below the screen}and reverse procedure. carefull not to over tighten the torx screws. Also be aware that this would void warranty so keep swapping till they want you to pay. cheers chris

Sounds like a wise decision,Terry....we also have to deal with much higher humidity than most up here ...
I have a garmin sounder/gps combo which has never had a fogging issue but I also have a stand alone Furuno 620 sounder which is a real nice unit...I have also seen the fogging occur over and over in the cheaper Navman units....Edit...Sorry I meant Lowrance not navman

BTW,Hope you got satisfactory payment for those Paw paw's,mate.

Its a shame these units have a fogging issue. They are a great sounder at a great price and I would still highly recommend one. I sent mine back under warranty and it now works just like a new one , and has for half a year with no sign of the problem returning . It makes you wonder if the issue is so easily fixed by raymarine then why don't they change the manufacturing process so as not to have the issue in the first place.

    Yep.

I bought mine at Xmas and its just started fogging in the cooler weather. The On/Off button also sticks in.

I also will be returning it when I get the chance

    G'day

Just wondering what gain setting you guys run yours on?

I fish anything from 2-15M, auto fishing seems to be way over the top, but had a very limited run with 35% gain, looks much better but may be too low?

Is there any way to "save" the manual gain so when the unit turns back on, it doesn't reset to auto?

In the past I have seen these units frequently for sale through online stores and E-bay being sold as "refurbished" models....always wondered what the common problems were that caused so many to be sent back to the manufacturer that ended up being onsold as "refurbished units"......

    Re: Ray Marine DS500X sounder

    Hey guys,
My navman 6600 fogged up every trip until I lost the plastic cover that protects the screen and it has not fogged for the last 11 months. I explained this to another mate with fogging problems on his raymarine and he has ditched the cover as well. So far no fogging problems.

I have the 600, don't have any fogging problems, but curiously- after the last post - i have never used the original covers very much
