    Fishing near Toowoomba

Hi, I'm new to this... I live in Toowoomba QLD and am looking for somewhere near here that I can take my daughter 4 and step son 11 to fish. We do not have access to a boat so we will need somewhere safe to fish off the bank. Any ideas would be great. We are looking to go either this weekend or next weekend. They are very excited. Last time I took my daughter fishing was at Kellys beach Bargara and she loved it.

    Rachel,

Cressbrook dam is about 40 min from toowoomba, towards crows nest. it has heaps of bass and is pretty accessable from the bank. If you can get some live shrimp from mullet gut marine in town you will nearly always catch bass from the bank, particularly around the ramp area and off any accessable points.

Cooby dam is about 20min out of town (same direction sort of) near Highfields. OK off the bank for Yellowbelly and Cod, again live shrimp are the best. i am not sure if it is open to the public at the moment. Some of the locals might know.

    hope this helps some

    cheers Steve

    Hey Rachel

Cressbrook and Cooby will both produce fish from the bank. I would suggest you drop into Fish N Bits at Alderley Street and have a talk to Dave and Carl Jocumsen. (from AFC Outdoors fame)

Dave is a guru of fishing for bass from the bank at Cressbrook. They will give you all the right info.

You will need $2 to get throughthe gates at both dams and they have great picnic areas.

Good luck and would be keen to see a post on how you went.

    Cheers

Yes Cressbrook is a good dam for of the bank with shrimp or even worms, don't forget you need a permit to fish these dams you can pick one up at Mullet Gut Marine and bait and some local knowledge.

    Hey Rachel,

The others have summed it up for impoundments. I havn't been to Cooby but it's the closest. Cressbrook is a nice dam if you can manage to get that far with the kids. I have only fished it twice on consecutive days and came up trumps on both days.

Looking forward to getting back down that way some day. Hopefully it's a bit greener than last time I was in Toowoomba.

    Cheers, Colo
