    Re: FIJI

hi keechie i fished daily landbased at plantation, mostly poppers and soft plastics , that platform you are talking about is still there and theres plenty of small bluefin trevally around there. i usually walked out to the reef at low tide and fished the edge and surrouding reefs for small cod, and reefys etc....ONE THING I MUST SAY IS WATCH OUT FOR STINGRAYS while i was there i heard of 2 different people getting stung, hit while walking the shallows...OUCH apparently one bloke got one straight threw his foot. cheers bdowdy..brett

Sounds like you had a great time of it Brett! What did I tell ya about local knowledge? Some nice fish there mate and good you got onto a few unstopables too. Plantation Island or mololo lai lai is a superb spot to stay and fish and castaway is even better!

    Cheers,
    Dorado.

    Re: FIJI

Has anyone fished Waya island? I'm heading over in a fortnight and wondering wether to take gear or not. It would be a shame to drag all my gear over there to be told that theres no fishing from the shore allowed, due to snorkelling reefs etc.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: FIJI

hi joe-90 mate id take the gear anyhow, have heard that some islands dont allow landbased fishing ,,but ask someone local on the island and you should be right you may have to buy some kava or some cash to do atrip but youll have a ball, there will be a fisho somewhere close.cheers bdowdy..brett

    Re: FIJI

That sounds like a great holiday destination and the fish are certainly out of the ordinary. I always thought of Fiji as the sort of place you would need to charter a game boat to catch fish.
What do you think the freshwater fish were?

    Cheers

    Re: FIJI

Man sounds like you got it good in Fiji.

Was that Joe you went out with in the little longboat ?

I went to Plantation last year for a week, went out twice on the islands boat game fishing but each time we got NADA, not a friggin bump. The second time the skipper gave us most of our money back as he'd NEVER, in 30 odd years fishing Fiji, gone on 2 trips in 2 days and got nothing. Another guy staying there went with Joe to Cloudbreak and other reefs and got nothing.
But a mate of mine went a few months after me, stayed at castaway and got smashed everytime he put a lure near the water. He also went with Joe and smashed as well, and had a few great waves near cloudbreak.

Those Fijian men know how to stay up late getting wasted on kava and ganga dont they Brett !
