After the disappointment of the last trip to a little ledge I fish in the Redcliffe shallows, I had been itching to get back out there for another go. Organised an FDO(fishing day off) and hit the water at first light this morning. Preety quiet for the first hour or so, but once the tide started to move water over my ledge the action picked up. Landed a couple of keepers at 40 and 47cms and then hooked a stonker that buried me faster than you can blink. A few more landed around the 40-50cm mark, which were released. About 8.30am I got one at 63cms(BBQ size), added him to the keeper net and cast back out again, only to get slammed on the drop. Line was disappearing fast, but the fish headed for open water so I thought I may have a chance. About 10minutes went by before I saw my prize and after a couple of anxious moments the fish was netted and I was gobsmacked. I picked it for about 85-90cms. This fish had fallen to a 4" swimming mullet in pumkinseed with 8lb braid and 6lb leader. I had no intention of keeping such a great fish, but it was going to be difficult to get photo's on the yak, and crap, no bragmat. I have a tape measure in the car, that will do. So i put the fish in the keeper net, tied a rope to it and towed it back to shore (about 400metres). The fish was photographed quickly and released beside the ramp, soaking me with one beat of its tail when it realised it was free. The only disappointment is the photos. Sorry the quality is pathetic. The lcd screen is stuffed and I did not know there was water on the lense until I got home. Bugger. For the record the fish went 94-96cms. It was hard to keep it still to get an accurate measurement with water washing up the ramp constantly. One of the photos shows the 63cm fish flopping around in a bid for freedom.
