one more secret spot in the bay

as i was going for a fish in the bay heading out i passed two boats about 18 feet long one was being towed at first i thought nothing of it then i sad to my self the one being towed has no motor and it was towed out not in any way i went to a spot and started fishing keeping a eye on the two boats . they were a big distance away as time want on i keeped waching them then they stop . about 30 minutes later i could make out one and abit boats . so i went over to see if they need a hand .as it turned out they didn't they sank a old boat which they would fish in time . so i put it in the gps and went off to fish but there is a new secret wrack in the bay just to let you no .

If this story is on the mark, there are a lot better ways to create an artificial reef...btw, is that not illegal?

there are no secrets in fishing these days for this exact reason. Word of mouth person to person and via the internet the word spreads to so many so quickly. I see you are trying to do the right thing by other fishermen here but i think a bit of hush hush may have been the way to go. If these guys were going to the trouble of sacrificing a boat to make themselves a little arti to fish then i dare say they dont want it posted all over the net for all to see....like wise, you have the marks for it...keep them for yourself and tell no body. You might actually pull a good fish or 2 off this mark before every one else tracks it down and fishes on it.

He didnt post the marks or even say where it was near. So I dont think everybodys gunna track it down that quickly. Was an intresting story for us all to read.

I believe Lampuki might be right???? I have heard that a $10000 fine is up for grabs for whoever is found to be doing this type of activity. I am not absolutely sure though. And I have heard a few stories myself of guys who have done exactly the same over the years. I am not taking sides either way.
Spare a thought though for the location of some of these 'reefs' I hope they are all out of the way and not able to cause harm or death. Imagine that you are in your trawler legally trawling an area you may have been trawling for years as it is a known clean ground suddenly catching that obstacle with the net at full trawl speed. We have seen the evidence of this a couple of times in Moreton Bay and I believe the last time the skipper was killed.
I am not suggesting that this will happen nor having a go at the guys involved, but I hope a little common sense has been used in the location.

im almost certain sinking a boat on purpose is illegial....

im sure it was out of the way however...i know if i was going to do something like that i wouldnt do it in a major traffic area.some one will find it tho and spread the word.thats the worst thing about moreton bay,there are no secret spots her anymore.

Milk crates mate, ziplock them together and weight the corners. Toss em into a safe stretch of water (perfectly, under cover of darkness) and mark GPS. You can add crates but after a few visits it gets to be a bit of a bugger trying to get the whoe contraption off the sea floor. (Some reo steel bars bent in grappling-hook fashion and spot welded together with nylon rope works well when finding your sunken treasure). Obviously due diligence and reasonable care should be excercised as to where said snapper hotel should be laid. The closure of the bay has prompted some (clever) people to find a way around these things.

Tossing plastic overboard? I thought they called this pollution. While we are at it we may as well save all our empty beer bottles and cans and send them all down in one spot. I really don't think this is something we need to be doing and if we are doing this sort of thing then perhaps we shouldn't be advertising the fact. The greenies are already having a field day with us.

make no mistake, pollution is not my style... however- seems like the greenies have already won, while no excuse- you can understand the lengths some desperate fishos will go to.
Looks like they'll have to start dropping paving slabs in the bay instead ;-)
