Hey You Do Know Why They Call Them Tailor, Some People Say Because They Have Teeth Like A Tailor, (seamstress) But The Truth Is They Bite The Tails Off Their Prey Which Stops Them From Swimming They Then Swim In Front Of It And Eat It Head First. True Story

Yeah sass I read on here a few months back that the tailor were called so because of (as you said) there teeth resembling tailor's shears ( scissors) from the old days, the bloke who wrote the post then went on to say how the specie's would (as you also said) bite off the tail's of smaller fish then return to clean them up, it has been mentioned on these forum's to have a 4th or even 5th hook on your ganged hook setup especially for that reason, and apparently it works well, unfortunatly for me ive ever only caught 2 tailor, the first was in the peak of summer with half a pilly and just sitting on the bottom and the other on a #2 long shank single hook that I was using for bream with bonito chunks for bait. Was very surprised in both case's and ate them both, yum yum!!
oh and both caught around the sea-way too! this winter I will be boating over to south straddie for early morning sessions off the beach and trying to use more conventional means, ie, ganged pilly with slow retrieve etc and may even try some metal slug,s.
