The last one to catch a fish generally Might be true this time as the last one was a jack. Was a custom rigged 5inch SP sporting a treble stinger.

Generally though it would have to be an elton john coloured Mad Mullet. Dont know thy but all my better barra have come on this lure.

For the Bass and Flathead my lure of choice is a sp on a rev head jig head. Works for both.

Alphas, look after the Newells, he takes 12mths to fill an order these days

mine would be madd mullet i just wish they could stick decent split rings and trebles on the lively lures. I would rather a mad mullet over a arafura any day off the week.
Also like tango dancers and squidgys rigged with a weed less hook they are great for on the weed beds and lillies in the lacal dams for barra.
Also like skitterpops and spinnerbaits for bass

    cheers BK

Can't do a single favourite as conditions and season change the favourite but for barra for me it is either a (1st) skitter pop, (2nd) squidy fish or (3rd) Gold Bomber and for bass
(1st) spinnerbait - cheap Kokodas (in the three pack) work best for me and (2nd) surface offering of some sort either small skitter pop or small 'cheap bin' poper with beefed up hooks and rings!

Its always the next one that catches a fish! ( or the next one I buy)

Seriously ....... I usually tie a lure on based on prevailing conditions ....

    1st choice:
TILSAN Australia 'Big Barra' in the Green Mackerel pattern (see left & below)
Made of balsa wood, suspending and with no internal rattle they work a treat, especially in clear water.

2nd choice based on productivity would be Rob Gadon 'Classic Barra' 120 deep in the glittering reflective gold/black pattern.

An old black & white nilsmaster stalwart. Never failed me whenever I used it. Best session 25 barra one afternoon out of the East Alligator. Gave one to my brother a confirmed bait user & he caught 2 barra for 3 casts in Fitzroy River W.A. By the way all barra were released except 1 which was delicious. Bill

Kid they are brilliant lures The Arafura is my pic, dont know how you fish but you must be heavy handed, I have taken meter plus barra in the sticks on standard livley's and not done a thing but rubbed a bit of paint every lure off the shelf will bend and buckle regardless of brand and or price.

If you are serious about your tackle and want to limit you bends and breaks, most of the consistant fisherman not just barra guys up-grade the terminal stuff.

    Re: whats your Favorite lure

A chain will always break at its weakest link...so even if your lure is connected to the best line you can buy with the best available leader and you've tied the best knots you can ever tie in the history of knots...and you've upgraded the trebles (but you didn't bother about the split rings) then...???

Too bad for the wallet conscious fishos.....the upgrade terminals can add up to close to the cost of the lure. So my advice is to have a close look at what the lure is equipped with "out of the box".

In many cases it will be fine - AOK - but then think about the kind of fishing you will be doing and the kind of potential fish you'll be catching - and consider if the standard terminals that come on the lure you buy.

Some will be terrific and no probs, while some will most definately lose you the fish you've been hoping so much to catch.

My No 1 lure is still the Tilsan Big Barra and I used the same terminals as supplied from the pack (and it caught numerous barra as well as a few PNG blak bass).

haha maby its just bad stock here but we get mad mullets with bent hooks strait out off the packet sometimes.
I dont really fish around sticks but i do have to stop them from going around bullrush some times.
I use 20lb braid and 30lb leader and have bent (not straitened) hooks on a mad mullet on a barra about 55cm (my first on mad mullet) so now i upgrade the split rings and hooks both with owner.
