    Within a couple of months of doing my sums and deciding a diesel was a workable choice then purchasing, the price started bolting up from the then 87cents Big bummer!!! My decision based on diesel was worth it until $1.20 per litre, amazingly quick this price was found and surpassed! feeling well screwed over, less than 0 advantage in owning a diesel today, company car now gets a workout, free fuel here offsets the times the diesel is used now.

    I heard the excuse used for the prices is the demand in asia electricity powerplants which run on oils thus driving up the price as they will pay anything to have it -reminds me of another country I know.

    Dont buy a diesel it's a crock!! We have moved on.

    Work this out diesel in NZ is 1.50/l convert to AUD and you get $1.27 .........
    Maybe the ACCC can tell us how that works

    Work this out Singapore $1.63 convert AUD1.20

    Yeah, but unleaded fuel is almost $2NZD a litre. So it looks like the difference is due to difference in government taxes;

    It is the same in Europe, Diesel is cheaper than Unleaded because the governments have a lower tax on diesel for environmental reasons.

    Good luck on getting our Federal Government to drop excises on diesel to similar levels!.

    Cheers

    Mate i am looking at a Toyota hilux 4x4 dual cab (new) ..... only cause i want/need the extra cabin space, and because neither toyota or nissan make a dual cab with enough power and a tray !

    would love a GMC but the $ is stopping me.

    Re: Diesel $1.60 ltr

    Ok relatively small diesel and new, thats harder to shoot down due to their good fuel economy on average compared to petrol. But once out of warranty, it will not take much to spend the entire combined since new fuel savings on just one mechanical fault/tuneup.

    As an offside the only thing would be the micro particulates they spew out, these are small enough the directly enter the bloodstream, truly nasty stuff, believe it or not I try not to follow directly behind new diesels with my daughter in the car if I can at all help it as it is without doubt the biggest environmental heath risk that faces her. The new asbestos!
