    Whiting Bait

    Hi All
I couldn't be bothered pumping yabbies these days so I cut up thin squid strips and marinate them for a couple of days in tuna oil and aniseed and it works very well. Does anyone have any other concocctions that work as I would be interested to finding other brews?

I use thin squid strips too Kahla, I don't bother "marinating" them though. Just scrap off the skin, clean them and cut the tube into strips about 6 to 8 mm wide.

Last trip out my mate bought some peeled cooked prawns and they seem to like them a lot.

    Cheers

Mate I use strips of squid and then give it a light bash with a meat hammer to tenderise it and the chinese fish (whiting) love it and i is soft for them to inhale.

hey mate, peeled prawns is the go and make sure ya use a very small hook, doesn't have to be a long shank either, and fish 2 hrs before high tide, this usually does the trick.

Tried berkley sandworms in bloody for the first time this year with a little squid teaser at the base of the hook, no marinade just the squid. Well I never, these things were DYNAMITE. I've used the real bloodworms, sandworms etc but these things just blew me away, I can't wait to give them a whirl in the surf at Moreton in a couple of months.

Used Berkley gulp last weekend, worms in red and pumpkin. Also used the shrimps caught over 20 in two hours.

dont use a jighead just use your standard whiting rig (ie running sinker, swivel, trace ) and thread them onto your normal hook. it helps to leave a bit dangling off the end of the hook.
