Thread: A Sign Of The Times- Another Business Closing

Thumbs down A Sign Of The Times- Another Business Closing

Another local Bait and Tackle shop suffers the fate of many and is going to close its doors for the last time after so many years of trade. "Beenleigh Bait and Tackle" is officially up for sale but if nobody offers to buy it the last day of trade will be the 28th. of April 2008. I was talking to the owner today and he is desperate to sell for just $50,000 which I think is a give away. His business suffered when all the new roadworks took place a while back limiting access to the shop. Will be a sad day to see it no longer trading.

    Cheers,

He might be better off having a 10 day closing down sale, with most items 50% off. Better off getting what he can in his pocket while he can.

Maybe a relocation for someone who buys the business will be called for??

What locations are most needed for a tackleshop like this?

I think half of the problem with running a small business is getting your business situated in the mainstream of traffic so you get the most exposure. Too many smaller operators have gone under mainly due to big groups moving into thier selling areas and the small business not being in a prime location.

I think some form if guidance for a would be buyer would definitely be beneficial to keeping the business alive in the future.

i spoke to the bloke about a week ago and he said it was for sale for $70,000 so he must be getting desperate to drop it by $20.000
surely if he hung on a little longer, the roadworks are gone and done with, tackleworld on compton road have closed, if im going to jacobs area its ok we get our bait at the gem but if im heading north to the brisbane port area there isnt anywhere i can get any gear.......please dont close, i might go see the bank, see if they will throw a quick $50.000 at me

Well he definitely said $50,000 today. His words were "If it is not sold by the 28th of April then it is gone!" There is a couple of things to consider with that shop. Firstly it is on a main drag and easily accessible but in my way of thinking just one thing lets that shop down which is presentation. The number of times I used to drive right past and not even see it. Why? The dull and plain blue and white signage out front. Stick some NEW and bright signs out the front and I reckon that shop could stand to do an amazing trade with some smart management. Will be a shame to see it close up for good when all I see is some great potential. I hope someone buys it at that crazy price. Bargain.

Sad to see, I went in there for the first time last week.
I know what you mean Poods, the shop is a little run down, its also probably one of the last old school bait and tackle shops. No wall to wall plastics and lures like other tackle stores

That is exactly what happened to my shop. The council redirected traffic via a set of traffic lights so that the passing cars turned left into westfields before - instead of after they drove past my store, then blocked off the car park that people could use to get to me. And the landlord put up the rent because we were so close to the shopping centre. my trade dropped by fifty percent in one week! No one could park anywhere near me.

There isnt enough margin in that sort of business to take those sort of hits......better off working for someone else and let them worry about all the finances. Its all well and good wanting to provide a service and make some money out of your hobby.......but this part of the industry doesnt put food on the table for the small businessman anymore....much to my disgust.

ok - had my whinge now...will get off the soap box.

    G'day!

I sat outside his shop in traffic and wondered if it was worth dropping in for a look. In the month (doing holiday relief) I drove past, I never bothered to.

With the weather we have had this year I reckon a few more businesses would be feeling the pinch. The big stores like BCF would be having an impact as well.
It might be a great opportunity for someone to buy into a lifestyle business at a very good price

I am not so sure about that. Bad weather seems to cost me a lot of money!! When I am bored I head down to the boat shops and tackle stores.
