Cheers for the link Jack. (info within looks like rubbish weekend coming up (hahahahahahaha))

Just not sure if the wind is going to drop.

If it doesnt I dont think there are too many areas to access.

    Going anyway.

    Cheers

You will be surprised how much terrain there is to fish in really crappy conditions up there. Quite a huge estuary system pickled with reefs and some bloody deep holes and creeks. The western edge of Quail Island has some remarkable terrain with very interesting tidal patterns and lots of fish.

    Re: Anzac Stanage

you can head around the other side of quail island to get out of wind(dpends on direction) fish near tide island an hour either side of high tide, reef species to be caught there, tides shouldnt be to big when ya there, probably running around 3 knts.
if ya into trolling that would be ya key i reakon with a windy forecast, head down the sound past egg island, and troll the creeks from there to the herbet, just dont get stuck at low tide. and please log on with the coast guard, its so easy to get lost there, direction really confuses alot of people.
ask tony and von (great friends)at the tackle shop for some more advice.
they also have a dawn service there to pay ya respects before heading out!

    cheers

    Re: Anzac Stanage

    Great info guys.

Will be doing manly trolling (I have a clean freak coming on board) but i do like bottom bashing also. How much lead do you guys rec'n for thje bottom?

Hopefully not too much run at this time!

    Anyone else heading up???

    Re: Anzac Stanage

I generally never anchor and preferably drift through areas making my lead needs very minimal, I think the most I've used there is about an ounce in the middle of a run in the deepst water I could find.

Mostly I am using about 1/4 oz for most of my fishing up there is i am using anything at all.

Next time however im gonna have a downrigger to explore the deepest hig flow areas a bit better.

    Thanks Jack.

Do you troll against the current or with???

    Re: Anzac Stanage

It is dependent on the speed of the current, in some parts there it is in excess of about 6 knots and that makes trolling against all but impossible. Out in front of the headlond and heading down towards Shoalwater the direction of troll doesn't matter squat as the current isn't great there.

Last time I was there I was a hard body fisho and I am keen to get back up thewre with the skills I have developed with soft plastics and give them a go, I think they will be outstanding.

Livebaiting some of the areas will get you very sore arms around the turn of the tide and when the run starts again there is a big surge for about 20 mins with everything trying to gullet as much as possible before the current pushes it away again.

You will be amazed at the terrain and potential the area has and I think you will be the same as me and decide that the next trip will be a month long!!

    Re: Anzac Stanage

Just got off the phone from Von. Sounds like the Anzac festivities will be good. Road condition is ok but it hasnt been graded since the rain some time back. Hope the trailer will hold up.

Von reports the crabs are in their holes at the moment........................I hope tjhat changes before the weekend.

Thanks for the helpful advice Jack.

Will try and post on return.

    Cheers
