Hope someone's got some info for me. I'm looking to build a good quality 24Kg stroker. I have a beaut 15Kg Garry Howard buit stroker that is branded with "Sabre (in big letters) with "Stroker" in small letters underneath. Its a black blank, and I reckon if i could find the 24 kilo version of the same I'b be happy. I was thinking that I'm looking for a Sabre E-Glass 6455XH, but since have heard that my 15 may actually be a Seeker Blank re branded in Oz as a Sabre. All very confusing. So now I don't really know if i'm after a "SuperSeeker6455H" or a "Sabre E-Glass 6455XH", or maybe there the same thing or maybe there not what i'm after at all.
Anyone got any ideas on the above, experience with these blanks, thoughts on good blanks for 24 kilo medium/fast strokers then any help would be great
You are spot on about Sabre/ Seeker being one of the same. Ring Gary and find out the blank up from that model. He may use a diffrent blank in terms of ratings to get the action he wants. I wouldnt waste your time guessing, Ring Gary and he will help you, he is also a nice guy to speak with.
Why don't you also give Peter Williams a try at GCCR Tackle. He is the importer of the Hastings/Graphite USA line of blanks. I had the opportunity to test some his blanks at last years AFTA Show in Surfers and in the 24kg range there are some pretty tough blanks which, IMHO, would pull a Sabre backwards. Great blanks at a reasonable price.
I have built quite a few 6455XH and they are a fantastic rod, I still have one myself as well as the 6455H, are they still around now days? I have not seen any of the range for a while now, but that might be just because trends have changed and my Local does not keep them in stock anymore, People seem to just go and buy an off the shelf Rod now.
I have built quite a few 50lb stand up rods on the X2G60H Pac Bay PBX2 composite Tuna blank (cut down to between 5'4" and 6' for Tuna and Marlin). They can be best described as true 50lb blanks in that they can take more then a 1/3 drag @ 50lb and not be overloaded (they can take around 50% drag @ 50lb). They are made the same way as the Calstars and Seekers with a glass tip into a graphite mid and butt section. The graphite mid and butt section give them unbelievable lifting power. You can buy them for under $100 and they come with a lifetime warranty.
