Outboard won't 'kick up'.

Hi all

I have a 2006 40hp 4 stroke yammie, tiller steer, elec start, t&t.

If the motor touches bottom or connects hard with terra firma whilst underway the motor does not kick up. I cannot find a lever/switch or anything similar to release, move or change to allow this to occur. Is this normal? I was sure all outboards could be set to allow them to kick if they hit something, then lock them down when reversing?

Any suggestions would be great!

my 2005 30 yammie kicks up but it doesn't have T&T.

AFAIK they will not kick up if you have elec t&t. My yammy definatly kicks up (have tried it unintentionally several times) but I do not have t&t.

No, they are definitely still designed to kick up, even if they have Electric T and T. Only happened once, scared the crap out of me, caught the edge of a reef at full noise.

Yeah they are designed to kick up but only on what the owner would consider a severe impact, the force first has to overwhelm the hydraulics. It takes a pretty big bang.

FNQ is correct, they will kick up if you hit something, but you will not be able to just give it a yank and pull it up, the Hydraulics inhibit that happening, other wise when you engage reverse, your motor will kick up and be a real drama.

No motor will stay kicked up while it is in gear and running. The prop thrust forces it down again.
