Re: biggest shark you could eat ?

tell me about it kev , i reckon every steak cut the knife got sharpend i only had a steel and no stone so i could not get a good edge on it . The funny thing is my missus got a knife from the ekka 1 year , you know the ones that can cut through any thing ? and i gave her heaps when she bought it "oh yeah it can cut pvc , wood sure" , "oh yeah never goes blunt hey " well i have cut pvc with it and half way through cutting up the shark i got the chits with sharpening so i got out the mirical knife and did the rest no worries and its still sharp ( i wont tell the missus thou) it has a seraded edge on it and cuts the skin easy .

I've never tried a serrated knife Nico. I'll give it a go next time.

What are your tips with catching shark & bringing it home? I have caught them off the beach ( plenty of room ) but never brought 1 into the boat before. I have a Small boat, always worried about losing something important like a foot Always see small bronzies round the boat when I'm fishing but have cut the line rather than mess with them. Any suggestions on the safest way?

we moved all the rods and lifted our feet when it hit the deck and while i had the head with the gaff brandon had the tail and then we knocked it out with the you'll B .
i was holding a little shark one day for a photo and the bloody thing kicked my rod in the drink at mud , so move any thing that you want out of the way first .

I catch bullys from the Brissie River every few weeks and eat one, say every 2 months..

    Quite tasty..... Great Sport fish..

For the record, I catch and release all bar the one that I eat.... Usually a fit little Juvenile... Couple of Feet max....

Keep an eye on 'em till the end...............even the smaller ones. You can lose more than a foot.......... I nearly lost a metre Watch what this one does near the end

Sorry kingtin, Just been asked what I'm laughing at by my 3 year old daughter When you say metre mate, got to ask, do you measure fish the same way ???
Think my idea of bringing a little bronzie into the boat needs more thought though Great Post I'll keep you in mind when I'm onto one next

Nah Mark! I tend to overestimate my fish, whilst the opposite can be said of the other

This bugger actually latched onto the deckie's foot back in the UK and she had a conger eel do exactly the same thing. Luckily she has never been in the boat when I've landed a pike eel..............now they do go off!

I work in a deli. Bassa is one of the most popular fish because it cheap and people don't no what it is because back in the vietnam some america company or something trademarked the name catfish...but it is disgusting that crap could also sit at -35 for 6 months before it's even sold and i love when people ask what it is after they have brought it like 5 or 6 time..."yer it's Catfish from Vietnam" love the faces

Cheers Nico, I'll use it if you can't.

The shark is a Tope: http://web.ukonline.co.uk/aquarium/pages/tope.html

From the info, you can see that the one that the deckie caught is a good specimen.

We used to hold an annual Tope competition In Blackpool (UK) and that one came 3rd with very little between the first 3 places. I should've dropped a couple of leads down the tope's throat The final weigh in was at the finish which is why that bugger ended up in me back yard. In later years we had roving officials who you got in touch with via your radio and who would then come to you to weigh. That way most tope were returned alive.
