    Navman Radio Ringing me?

Today three times, the navman 7200dsc vhf radio started to ring like a telephone?
Sitting here trying to find it in the book, with no luck.
When the unit "rang" it asked for the gps to be put in, despite showing the GPS on its screen????
Was someone trying to track me??

    Help!

Mine rang like that to prompt me to turn the "Comms" On. It usually said "no GPS input" or similar on the screen though.
If everything has been switched off and the battery isolated, the "Comms" link may need to be re-established each time on start up, mine used to anyway.
Possibly the gps position on screen was the last known before it was switched off?
When it rang did you answer?

    regards

I heard the police on channel 16 talking about a vhf that was sending off distress calls sunday morn, wasn't you by any chance? They did not seem overly concerned by it.

I have the same DSC radio. You can stop the ringing by interfacing the NMEA connections with your plotter/GPS. This radio can transmit your position to other DSC radios in the event of an emergency. If you are able to wire it up properly you will get the full safety value of the radio. i don't know if the manual tells you how to stop the ringing in any other way.
    Hope this helps

The sunday morning calls I heard on ch16 & 73 were from something way off mooloolba, eventually heard a safety call on navigation hazard

I just upgraded the navionics map, (in a lowrance 337) maybe its nmea connections have gone.. Will look at that on the weekend. A marine dealer on the northside just installed the electronics and have to admit not very well, the dvd player is being checked under warranty at the moment.

Not sure on the seaphone anymore thought that went a while ago?
cheers! will just have to sit in the boat and fiddle with everything!

This link was sent to me by private email. It maybe handy for anyone trying to connect.
Once I read the picture, I can remember the original installation on 'dreamdays' and now will be pulling the dash off 'essence' on the weekend and double checking the dealers handywork.

Seaphone was shut down by Telstra well over 12 months ago and is no longer taught as part of the VHF radio operators certificate...

I have a navman 8084 and the matching 7200, hasn't rang like a phone yet, but have not got the ability to hook up the actual gps side of it. Think I will look around for someone with a bit more knowledge to do that bit...............

Some things are best left to someone who knows what to do, same as hooking up two batteries etc. Have the switch but not game to do the actual hook up..... I want it to look professional more than anything

Look forward to no ringing radios........
