    Nerang River!

    Hey,

Went fishing in the Nerang River with my Dad today chasing whiting on bloodworms, It started off well as we both caught good legal whiting on our first casts, we knew we were in for a good day, we then pulled another 6 legal whiting and 1 good 35cm Garfish (Any good for eating???) from the same spot before they went off the chew. As we went searching for some more whiting all we seemed to be able to find were small/medium bream and tarwhine with the odd one going over legal. We managed to find a couple of other whiting throughout the day spaced between plenty of undersized fish.

All in all it was a great days fishing as we managed to land between 40-50 fish, although only 17 going over legal.

    10 Legal Whiting - Best 31cm
    3 Legal Bream - Best 28cm
    3 Legal Tarwhine - Best 25cm
    1 Garfish - 35cm

I would like to thank "youngy" for all his help on helping us find some of these whiting as he put us onto some of the spots and the right baits, Cheers Youngy!

Nice session Dylan - good to see you getting amongst a few.

Garfish are excellent eating - not sure if you knocked the fillets off already, but I believe you can butterfly the fish whole and roll the backbone out with a rolling pin?

Hope you get some more good weather (and fish) for the rest of the holidays.

Marty Z is right on the money with the gar. Simply butterfly him roll him out and in the pan he goes. Bit of oil in there doesn't hurt either. Great catch there mate seems like a nice session!

Well done Dylan it is good to see you put the advice to good use, that is a nice feed.
Like i said to you in the pm spend some time in the future to find some canal wrigglers and you will save yourself a lot of money in the next 40 years, plus it is more satisfying to catch your own bait and fish. well done mate, Youngy.

Yeh, Thanks guys, is it uncommon to catch garfish while fishing for whiting with bloodworms??

Great effort GCC! YOUNGY is a deadset champion the way he imparts his advice and knowledge!

Fished the Nerang Thu night for a reasonable feed of whiting although the quality was down on the previous trip a few weeks ago. The bream were a real pain in the ar%e once daylight broke though. Will post a report on my whiting exploits later...

Ummmm, well he started off on fire catching most of the first few legals and undersizes, i started catching up during the day, and probably in the end were pretty equal with amount of fish (Undersize+Legals), I think he probably beat me with the legals about 10-7, Its always good having a bit of a battle!! lol
