Red Hot Threadie Session

Used pretty much the same technique i use for barra, stop/start allowing the lure to rise abit before a giving it another twitch! The bibless rattlers let sink down deep them jerk them back to towards the surface. Rattling lures were definately the go.

Fellas,
The threadies have been in the river for a few years but have bread up over the last 4 years as the river has less pollution since gravel dredging has ceased.
They are in numbers from the mouth right up to the upper reaches.
This time of the year they chase banana prawns and herring. They frequently patrol the first drop off from the bank into deeper water.

Most successful bait is fresh dead herring with 4/0 wide patten hook through the top. Let the fish run on a light drag setting for about 6 to 10 seconds then strike and hang on.

Make sure u keep your spots to your self, a mate of mine had one of the best threadie spots in the river and told one wrong person and now his spot gets a flogging daily and all get kepted too, there a good fish and a real treat for us brisbane guys to target gives us a slice of northern qld.

Thats an ideal size to take for a feed, over that its time to let them breed.

I have seen guys swim them beside the boat while motoring around with the electric and even after ten minutes they still don't swim away sometimes. I don't believe they are a catch and release species, best to only target them for a feed.

They release quite well as long as they are handled gently and put back into the water quickly, biggest problem is with that huge bucket mouth they have a habit of inhaling your lure and damaging gills etc! Also found soft tissue around the mouths of smaller fish is easily damaged.

Threadies still on the chew in the river!

Went out last night to introduced a mate to river threadie fishing, third cast I nailed a 75cm on a fluro manns 10+. Feeling pretty clever with myself I boasted about how it was done! 30mins later Duncan hooks up to his first ever Threadie which turns out to be a 112cm snodger It fought hard and dirty desperately headed for the sticks which were down current from our position. After about 15mins it was successfully landed, unfortunately too worn and couldn't be revived , so it went home for the table.
