    Best rigs for Lake Wivenhoe?

    Hi folks,

I'm heading up to lake Wivenhoe next weekend for a relaxing couple of days camping and fishing.

Can anyone recommend the right type of rig for catching bass and catfish? I know nothing at all about freshwater fishing so a few tips on hook sizes, baits and leaders (or not) would be really welcome.

    Cheers.

Pumpkin seed SP's for your bass, and prawns and squid for the cattys.
Thats all I use anyway, but I'm not a "bass fisherman".

Love the name, can we call you Mate,

I have not fished Wivenhoe, only Somerset. I understand there are Forktail Catties in W. Eel tail in S. Take garden worms, green prawns ( could try peeling them ) Catties should be on the bottom, Bass not so deep.

Try those little bubble floats, you can adjust the depth of your bait. Of course if you can get live shrimp you wont need anything else.

Light clear leader is the best way to go. Match your hook size to your bait, some of the Rounds are easy to extract. Fish the edges of the weed and rocky outcrops.

    Enjoy your weekend.

I have been called far, far worse

So SP (presumably small-ish shads on jigheads) for the bass and small hooks and prawns for the catties.

Thanks for the tips - I'll let you know how we get on.
