    Flathead on Plastics

guys brand new to this site and pretty new to fishing, my father has left me a 3.75 tinnie and I have just bought a new motor for it. but really want to get into using soft plastics for Flathead around the Pin area.
I have read extensively on this site and ahve an idea of what to try out, but the most confusing thing to me is the jig head, do use round heads or what and when I go to BCF there is such a choice it becomes somewhat confusing.
Is it possible for people to post some photos of the rigs set up so i can get a better idea of how it should look and what you are using.

    Thanks Heaps in advance.

Gazza, the shape of your jigheads make very little difference in your flathead catches in my experience. I'd be more worried about choosing a jighead that is a; heavy enough to get you to the bottom comfortably and, b; has a hook size that won't impede your plastic. A good range would be from maybe 1/16th for casting onto shallow banks to maybe 3/8ths. That heavier lead will only be for deeper water, even fishing the channels of the passage I rarely need anything more than 1/4. Hook sizes will vary with your plastic. Size 1s are alright for fishing smaller plastics like bass minnows and gulp shrimp. I use up to 5/0 for bigger plastics like 5-7" jerkbaits and ecogear paddletails. Get yourself a small range of these jigheads (I know they're not cheap, but a small range is a must) and choose a jighead as conditions suit. Good luck mate, they're a great fish to catch on plastics and plenty of fun.

go to a tackle store which offers some service. Any good sales person will be able to show you some good plastics and jig heads to suit.

    Re: Flathead on Plastics

i generally use a round jig head varying to suit the run in the water as you want it to hit the bottom. i think that pink soft plastics do me when im targeting flathead. In photo i am using a pink hot tail from squidgys caught 7 all up that day all on the same sp.
    good luck

    Re: Flathead on Plastics

You could do away with the plastic bit and gang up a decent sized good quality garfish then fish it like a plastic/lure - big flathead will jump in the boat

    cheers fnq
