Hi
has anyone fished Maroon Dam recently, any ideas on areas to target casting lures and plastics? I intend heading there early in the morning and might try some poppers also.

Fish the left side of the dam looking straight out from the boat ramp early in the morning while it has shad should be good for sufface lures, when the sun gets up use spinners to the edges and beetle spins and if you go right to the end on that side towards the cabins in that little bay in the middle use little max blades slow rolled along the bottom worked yesterday at the mini-bucks comp.

poppers at sunrise at maroon work a treat!try lucky craft bevy or mazzy poppers in darker colors, also had alot of fish caught on zara spook puppy with black top and white underside.1/8 spinnerbaits in black/red skirts have also produced.I am going there this sunday so I will let you know what worked well
We caught plenty of bass at last sundays minibucks on spinnerbaits worked around the edges. Most colours seemed to work but the green's with large silver willow and small gold colarado blades stood out the most for us.

Fished Maroon this morning with limited luck.
Started out at the boat ramp and just worked the bank to the left and across to the bay mentioned by the saint.
Tried spinnerbaits first up and in the trees along the bank to the right of the dam wall with only little fish. Got a couple of just legals from schools just to the left of the dam wall and plenty of fish showing on the sounder in the bay but they werent playing the game- tried evergreen's, mask vibs, soft plastics and fly. The wind made it difficult, but still managed a couple. A very different bite to the minibucks. The next comp might be a bit different.
Cheers,
Matt

Hi Guys
fished Maroon today, tough "day at the office" Fished poppers early no luck, beetle spinners no luch. Trolled lures threw jackalls. Total of 4 bass and 1 yella in 7 hours. I have never seen so many fish on a sounder and so few hits.
The top area of the dam is full of fish on the screen but they are non cooperative. A lot of green algy in the water. Any suggestions? The dam is supposed to be only 60% but it must be close to 80% if the markers around th dam are any indication. If this is %60 then it will overflow at 100%
I will be back next week any ideas to increase the strike rate?
Sporty,
Which boat were you in? I would have had to seen you on the water if you were out there on Thursday.
When the fish are showing on the sounder and just flat- lining I usually find slow rolled paddle tail plastics or fly the best. Work the lure nice and slow and keep it in the fish by using a 1/2 or 5/8 jighead. I also have a rod rigged with a mask to try hopping if the fish start arching up.
If the fish are schooling up within 50m of a bank, try working a spinnerbait or rattling jackal deep out from the bank. Sometimes a few fish will break away from the shut down school and move up along the bank to feed where they can be caught on reaction baits.
Hope that helps
Matt
Hi Matt
saw you and the dog fishing yesterday. I was in the red Explorer with a mate. It was a very difficult day, after you left the wind dropped right off then a heavy shower just skirted south and I though that migh change the barometer but still no luck, left about 3.00pm, everyone else had gone by then. Still thats fishing I suppose.
Matt
Gerry got one reasonable fish at that spot casting Jackalls and I caught one about the same size as my jackall along the bouy line. Caught 2 others trolling "hot lips"from the yellow marker to the second marker up near the timber. Yes it was a dificult day but that's what keeps us buying more gear abnd trying harder
