    Hi W.W,

Wynnum Marine or Leisure Marine are to two closest Evinrude dealers to you in Cleveland. I have used Wynnum Marine for over 10 years without a problem and highly recommend them as very good people to deal with.

They won't necessarily be the cheapest, but they will look after you and they do very good work in my experience.

    Cheers

    Re: Servicing 6hp evinrude

    hi guys,

Ive funnily enough got the same motor.

i took it out of the shed and put it over the water drum and it started 3rd pull, after 7 years.

It did smoke a fair bit though. i quite possibly got the oil mix incorrect, but id like to have someone look over it for some piece of mind.

Im in Sydney, is there anyone you could suggest would be the right person to look at it, and am i looking at a hefty fee?

Thanks for your help in advance

    Gorms.

If I start a two stroke that's been lying around for years, I wan't to see heaps of smoke. It means bearings, jurnals, rings and bore, may have had enough lube to prevent to much rust developing.

Smoke is your friend, just means more than enough lube. Of course to much lube slows your motor down, fowls the plugs, and makes it hard to start.

roughas is correct, in a 2 stroke, lots of smoke at startup after a long "snooze" is good, just give it a bit of a run and see how it goes, pretty simple Motor to do service on, water pump is a breeze, carby is the same, all easy simple stuff. BUT seized bolts might test you out a bit.

    Thanks for your help guys.

Ill run it around the boat ramp area so if anything goes wrong i can paddle back.

If it does get to something as serious as seized bolts, ill have to hand it over to someone.

Who are the people around Sydney who look at these things?

    Re: Servicing 6hp evinrude

With seized bolts you can get lucky by loosening a fraction then tightening a fraction, Use plenty of WD or just wet stuff to soften the rust in the threads as you do it.

There is a feel to it as to when you bust a bolt, it doesn't just snap it still twists like you think you have done it, but it's twisting the head off the bolt.

    Good luck with them.
