Is your battery fully charged?
Once the power supply drops below a set amount the machine will power off automatically.

battery fully charged the unit stays on during simulation mode but shuts off during real operation afetr 5-10 minutes
Internal or external antenna?
If external, check, in particular, that the antenna connections are solid.
Dunno if this will help mate, I just did a google and there are apparently some models that shut down after 7 minutes of no movement???
Interesting, although if you are not moving, and not fiddling witht he buttons or menus etc, then I suppose there isn't really any need for the GPS to be on? Unless you are using it for a drag alarm of course, which is a very valid reason. But yeah perhaps his model is one of those. At least his batteries wont go flat as quick
Problem solved the unit was WAAS enabled out of the box once this was switched off problem solved, apparently this is a feature which only works in the Northern hemisphere and if left on here will freeze or shut down the unit, thanks GME for your quick response.
1. What is a GPS WAAS enabled that is sold in Australia.
2. Surely GME should be disabling this feature before the units even leave the warehouse.
3. WAAS is a fetaure that has very limited potential even in the northern hemisphere.
