Thread: gps accuracy

    Re: gps accuracy

Some of the advice you give contradicts a text book that I have and I know we have touched on this before in another thread, but you disagree about the difference between military GPS satellites owned by the defence forces and domestic GPS satellites which are used for non millitary purposes.

"you disagree about the difference between military GPS satellites owned by the defence forces and domestic GPS satellites which are used for non millitary purposes."

    1. Then whatever it is you contradict please put it forward for discussion.

    2. What is the title of this "text" book?

    3. They are the exact SAME satellite be it used for military purposes or non military purposes

    4. The difference in the past has been the signals but this gap has closed considerably

    5. GPS IIF satellites won't even be fitted with Selective Availability. These will begin launch following the last 2R-M, which will be launched latter this year.

    6. If you really want to read something about PPS accuracy then the document is available

    7. The revised SPS accuracy specifications, which even close the gap further on PPS is not all that far away from being released

    8. Time to update your text books

This is a fantastic article: GPS Joint Delegation Statement (establishing cooperation), Apr 2007 and
UNITED STATES-AUSTRALIA JOINT DELEGATION STATEMENT ON
COOPERATION IN THE CIVIL USE OF GPS AND SPACE-BASED POSITIONING, NAVIGATION AND TIMING (PNT) SYSTEMS AND APPLICATIONS

Pretty much states that Military GPS and CIVIL (not domestic) should be pretty much aligned.

Military use Band X at 7- 8 GHZ and Band KA at 18-30GHZ with a commercial agreement. Domestic uses L Band at 1 - 2 GHZ, check your machine.

    Cheers

    1. What can be said about somebody who confuses navigation signal freq on L band (be they L1,L2,L5 or whatever) with uplink/download freq used to control/monitor the system between the MCS and monitor stations.

    2. Not a thing.

    Re: gps accuracy

Still have not answered my question, I'd be suggesting that you are a high faluting sales guy, with a little bit of knowledege, I have asked you on many occassions, what is your expertise in GPS technology, you refuse to answer on that ???????, You refuse to aknowledge government documentation from Australian Government sights, do you think I made that stuff up?
There is no need to get self reightous, just asking where you get your info and how qualified you are to give all these expert opionions to the other forum users.
i have based my information on factual documentation, I am no expert as you profess to be, I am just asking.
I have a major cruise planned for Lord Howe Island in late 2009 or mid 2010, I want to make sure that I am up on the latest technolgy for the safety of me and my crew.
I have read all your posts and if you have some proffessional knowledge I am prepared to listen, but I will not listen to some unstustainable gobbledy gook

UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! I have just been reading all your posts from 2006, I apologies to you as you obviously have some computery electronic, text book skills and do not have many skills in the communications or social skills and can only talk in numbers includng responses e.g 1.this and that.2 you got it wrong 3. what would you know 4. how dare you question me. 5. How dare you question me again.
People are just after some answers on simple navigation using navigational aids, such as compasses.charts,UHF, depth sounders and GPS chart plotters, they don't need to know MGHZ or alpha band levels, just trying to share the knowledge with like minded people to find out where they are in relation to their charts.
Do you have a boat? or Fish?
    Just asking
