Sandyd....
I would be very keen to go to this event.....i live in Tannum Sands and would very much like to lurn how to make a rod..... I will let the word out once you set a date.....Let me Know how you go....
Cheers Plastic_Magic
I should point out that we are not professional, nor even "expert" rod builders.
This event should be considered as supplemental learning only.
It is more of a collective sharing of techniques that those attending use than a tutorial.
That said, even a complete novice should leave knowing how to assemble a functional fishing stick thingy.
Cheers,
Owen
The whole world's mad save thee & me (but I'm not too sure about thee)

Hey Owen and Sandy,
If I going to drive up there, there will be no rod building but I am sure I can convince you both for a fish at the hot water outlet. Good to see you both got back safe.

This is a list of items that will be needed. Thanks to Roz.
Rod Blank
Butt cap/gimbal
Reel seat/ winch mount
Grips
Guides
Carpenters chalk or equivalent for marking spacing’s on the rod.
Masking tape
Binding thread – Unless you already have a thread collection, I would recommend you purchase black in size ‘C’ Gudebrod NCP brand. However there are many good brands available. Of course you do not have to use black; it’s just a recommendation as it’s for the guides.
Filler/thread preserver
Small Brush
2 Part Epoxy - 24 hour (Grip & reel seat) and 5 minute (for the tip)
Scissors
Razor blades
Fishing reel with line. (It is best to bring the reel in intend to use on this rod.)
Acetone/Metho, probably 500ml to 1 litre (for cleaning glue etc)
Nail clippers
A file for smoothing the feet of the guides
Sand paper 120 or 240.
You will need something on which to turn your rod, the best things are rollers, but I have improvised and used two cardboard boxes.
If you are wanting to do decorative weaving you will also need other tools. A list will be supplied on request.
SUPPLIERS
We have Sponsors on Ausfish who can help out with your supplies just email them and they will be more then willing to help out or you can try the local tackle shops, you will find they have a limited stock but just may have what you require.

Hmmm...won't we need a make-up brush... I mean a paint brush to put the CP on with??....or will I just use a spatula....so I can trowel the make-up..I mean CP and rod finish with...
From the looks of the list.... I only need to go to 2 shops..... the hardware shop for the sandpaper and carpenters chalk....the butt plug, masking tape and binding thread I should be able to pick up from the Love heart shop..... Ya gotta love rod building!!!....
Just kidding!!!!.... got everything on the list Sandy & Owen.... I'm thinking I'll make up a nice little baitcaster on the weekend...
Thanks for pointing out the missing item you have now past lesson 1.
Did I tell you that there is a brothel down the road from where we may be holding the class. You never know what you can find there.
When we first came to town I was trying to pick out a phone for the shop and the sales man was trying very hard to sell me this cordless phone on the point that it had a range of 500mt from the base. I turned around to him and said, "what do you think I am craze" He looked at me really blank to which I responded " with a brothel just 250mt down the road, I don't think so". He was rolling around on the floor with the other 2 shop people.

And suddenly the interest and attendance level at the Gladstone RBW went thru the roof....ha ha ha
Hmmmm...wonder if they'd let me display some rods in their foyer??....surely the rods would be safe there.....they should be used to handling them....
Now you've given me an idea ...hmmm... maybe I should try and be the first to have my rod.... rods in every brothel in Australia.... no silly idea.... fisher people are all married nice people they wouldn't go to places like that.... silly silly me...
Oh well.... the inital thought raised the blood pressure anyway.... imagine doing a sales / stock take run.....hmmmm..."be home in 5 years dear"...
It's almost time.... got my lunch box packed... although I reckon the tomatoe sangers that darling sweetheart made up for me might be a tad soggy by saturday... I'm too excited to care.... lookout gladstone.. here I come...soggy sandwiches and all....
must remember to take a phone book... so I can look up....broth....opps...boarding houses / hotels....
Just a quick note to say a HUGE thankyou to both Owen and Sandy for the best weekend. It was great to meet some like minded people... and better hosts you'd not find in a day's march....
Their weaves are simply amazing....they can do with weaves what I can only dream of doing with a decal!!....
I had a fantastic time guys... and I appreciate all the tips and advice...
Book me in for the next one!!....
Robbie it was a pleasure to have you here. Now on the subject of the next one, Roysie is coming back next week end to finish his rod not sure which day yet because if the weather is good we will be out in the boat somewhere.
He came up against a little hick up at the end of the day. He is using Pac Bay threads which we have never used before and had completed all his under binds and had attempted to put one guide on. With this he had a lot of problems so to make it a little easier Owen suggest putting CP on it. What happened next took both of us by surprise, the thread just stretched like you would not believe, the guide that was already in just feel out and the under bind just went all wonky.
I have to wonder if anyone else has had the same thing happen. I know they are not ment to have CP on them but if you had used Madeira as a trim or an under bind you would use CP and you would expect it to be OK.
cheers
