I would be surprised if you haven't fished it already Keechie!

I see plenty of Ausfishers regularly working their way up the canals past our place on the leccys casting lures around the pontoons. Plenty of big mullet live under and around the pontoons as well.

The big bream are pretty cagey, they did not get that size by luck! When I am of a mind, I have been know to "feed them up" for a week or two on bread and then on the right tide introduce a few bread baits in and around their haunts. Can be very explosive fishing!

It is amazing what lives in the canals. When we first moved here we lived in one of the original sections which had the oldest canals. I regularly saw huge GTs herding mullet and hunting in there. Tried to hook them but they were far too cagey. a lot of fun though as they "shouldered" the poppers I spun at them.

We even caught Mack Tuna off the pontoons! Would not have believed it if I had not seen it first hand a couple of times.

And there are plenty of big Jacks and Cod, plus some huge Pike eels in there too.

    Cheers

    Dave

Me and a mate fish the rocks on the north side of the Seaway in winter, last year he did 5 trips and caught 250 legal bream, obviously didn't keep all of them, but alot of the fish were 35+ cm. Unfortunately I only did one trip with him.

The Fitzroy River and The Narrows down to Gladstone have easily the biggest bream I have ever seen and that includes one night in front of the old fish board at Caloundra where my old man landed 7 for a total of 21.5 lb cleaned (1975) in the days when Jumpingpin and Caloundras bluehole were the best spots Now days in the Fitzroy it is common to get horse bream that big or much bigger as soon as I work out how to get some photos inserted I will The biggest bream I have personally caught here was 48.5 cm but that is small compared to some of these snodgers others have weighed in

There are some monsters around the charter boat pens at marina mirage , when they clean fish there they are in plague proportions but try catching them they are hell crafty ,if you leave from there for a charter throw a bit of toast or bread over the side and watch what happens ...matt

i think you have a pretty good chance of getting big bream right along the QLD coast. I live in Rocky and have caught a few kilo units in the river within the city reaches. Its better and more reliable at coast (Yeppoon) though.
Still looking for that 2kilo specimen.

    Hi Skeeter
the wharf next to the boat ramp at port alma is a special with yorkies or greenbacks use the same gear you would use for jacks and
don't use too big livies because of the big jewies and barras they are real hard to pull out of the structures
